REVIEWS
...Truth-loving Biljana Srbljanović is good at finding her way in a world of which she does not entertain a high opinion. And her Supermarket, directed by Alisa Stojanović and performed at «Bojan Stupica» Theatre, also belongs to so-called unpleasant plays.
And ‘unpleasant’ is putting it mildly. It could also be said of this vehemently polemic play that it is unbearable, nasty, ugly, dirty, cruel, cynical, comic, dramatic, odious, swearing, brutal, and unscrupulous. All this could be said, or everyone could say some of it, but it would not be the end of the story of Biljana Srbljanović, her plays, her world, or the people the young dramatist writes about…
The Way of the World, Muharem Pervić, Politika
… Alisa Stojanović interprets the play in the spirit of the burlesque, and, insisting on the grotesque, directs the elements of the abstract towards, speaking on the level of genre, more firmly and precisely defined situations, while parodying TV soap operas and suggesting the shallowness of the situation, which no one of the characters is even trying to get out of. On the contrary, the performance shows that the drama of history has definitively ended, and that we are witnessing a play that is only feigning a drama, and in fact implies pretence. Hence in a world ruled by the principle of political correctness it does not matter whether Leon Schwarz is or is not a former East German dissident-hero (the magnificent Predrag Ejdus, the tragicomic pivot of the play)… It matters, however, to preserve the illusion – the only guarantee of ‘to be continued’…
In the World of Lies, Aleksandar Milosavljević, Reporter
… Speaking about the actors’ part of the job, it must be pointed out that the part of an immigrant permanently working in his new homeland, performed by Predrag Ejdus, was more than just a creation. Namely, the way in which Predrag Ejdus played the part of this man without insight into his own life, implies a serious analysis of the part and a continuous search for many solutions, the consequence of which is, of course, a solution rarely seen…
